Mingle with More Than One Story

More Than One Story is a unique and powerful card game that builds bridges between people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. It is being used by schools, municipalities, and organizations all over Sweden and has been spread in over twenty languages by partners around the world. The game was awarded the Intercultural Innovation Award 2014 by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the BMW Group. In 2015 More Than One Story was chosen as the winner of the Council of Europe’s Democracy Innovation Award by the participants of the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg. You will in this mingle learn about the game from The Department of Culture and Leisure of Simrishamn and play it online together with the other participants at Social Innovation Summit.

All participants will have their camera and microphone on and it’s preferable that you take part in the full hour, from beginning to end. If you are running late, please make sure that your microphone is off when you enter to not disrupt anyone. Welcome to take part in this mingle that will be held in English! More information about the game can be found at https://www.simrishamn.se/kultur-och-fritid/more-than-one-story.

The Unconference Space

This year makes it the sixth time The Unconference Space is held at the Social Innovation Summit. The Unconference Space is organized and facilitated by the Impact Hub Stockholm team. There is nothing traditional about this Unconference set up.  There are no keynote speakers or pre-set program to adhere to. The people who participate in the Unconference are the ones who will host and drive the conversations. This encourages collaboration, empowers new thinking, and connects people.

This specific Unconference Space session will focus on ”The future of our home and city”.

Background: The pandemic forced us to reuse our homes and cities in new ways. Examples of new trends in our lives are home offices, taking a walk, avoiding public transportation, etc. In this session, we will talk about how we use our homes and city now during the pandemic and if we will keep doing the same after the pandemic, and if so – why?

You do not have to be an expert to participate – come as you are! For the full experience, make sure to have your camera and microphone on.

The Unconference Space

This specific Unconference Space session will focus on “Språkvård! Imagining inclusivity, language and cultural awareness for adults in plurilingual Sweden. Why and how should migrant languages be valued?”.

Background: Language is key in any type of crisis, be it war, the refugee crisis, disease spread, intercultural misunderstandings, and other man-made or natural disasters. An important issue for humanitarian organizations is finding the right support in the right language pairs at the time of a pandemic or a crisis. Even before the medical help, the information in the right language is crucial. While the Swedish health agency and many other organizations are increasingly creating websites & leaflets with important information in several languages, we still haven’t fully exploited the wealth of language richness available to us at our doorsteps. Whether it is during the Covid-19 or the post-Covid world, a bilingual mind has access to information and ways of doing things in different ways. Language contact enriches our world with diverse types of experiences. In Sweden, according to the Institute of Language and folklore (ISOF), 150 migrant languages are spoken besides the five minority languages and Swedish. An adult who can speak several languages can understand and bridge cultural divides within our cities. We need more contact between different language communities within our cities and Nordic to bring communities closer and to enrich our experiences.

Imagining and creating opportunities for multilingual education in Sweden for everyone is highly important, not just in times of crisis but to make the world a better place.

Reimagining Everything

Plenary session

Covid-19 has triggered an explosion of innovation, collaborationand creativity in society. Why do we need a crisis to provoke this? Imandeep Kaur and Per-Anders Hillgren join our keynote Margaret Heffernan in a forward looking conversation around how we can engage in active reimagination and consider alternative futures. If we accept that the existing models of rules, routines and control is over – what will replace it? And what friendly hacking of system gatekeepers can be done to ensure we don’t fall back into the old ways of working?
